Original Goose Island Brew Pub Closing

CHICAGO (CBS) — The original Goose Island brewery on North Clybourn will be closing after the owners were unable to reach a new deal on their lease.

On its website, CRM Properties in Deerfield, which owns the location, has already listed the 12,000 square foot space as available for a new tenant. Goose Island will be leaving the location in early 2014.

CRM said Goose Island was seeking a 30 percent rent reduction along with improvements to the property.

“We appreciate Goose Island Brewery as a longstanding tenant and would like to have seen it stay on, but its request brings the proposed transaction far below that of market value,” CRM senior vice president Chris Siavelis said.

Earlier this year, the brewery, which opened the Lincoln Park location in 1988, celebrated its 25th anniversary.

The closure does not affect the other Goose Island location in Wrigleyville and Fulton Street.

Goose Island was sold to Anheuser-Busch InBev N.V. in 2011, but the brew pubs were reportedly not part of the deal.

Back in 2008, a lease renewal negotiation almost led to the end of Goose Island at the Lincoln Park location.

Goose Island Founder John Hall still hopes the two sides can come to an agreement. CRM says it is offering to help the brewery find a new location.

 Blue Moon Harvest Pumpkin Ale

Here as Long as the Leaves Are.

In 1995, we crafted our 1st autumn seasonal—Pumpkin Ale. At the time, Oktoberfest beers were high in demand. For our version, we wanted to create a beer that was a little different than what was already out there and complemented the season by highlighting the flavors we’ve all grown to love during this time. It was so popular that it became the 1st nationally available pumpkin ale, as it’s called now, is crafted with pumpkin and spices of cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and allspice for a tasted you’ll want to fall right into.

Malts: Munich, Caramel

Hops: Hallertau

Our Twist: Pumpkin, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Clove, Allspice

IBUs: 16

Original Gravity: 15 º Plato

ABV: 5.7%

Deep anber-colored ale with brilliant clarity & a rich, white head

Very complex aroma consisting of malty spice notes.

The taste starts out with assertive malty notes and is quickly balanced with the right amount of harvest spices including cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and allspice. There’s a small amount of bitterness to keep the malt sweetness from building up.

A medium-bodied ale with just enough carbonation to balance the rich caramel character.

Finishes with a smooth, clean malt & spice taste. Hints of cinnamon, nutmeg, and malt gradually face.

 Food Pairing:

The flavors of cinnamon, nutmeg, & the other harvest spices pair well with beef dishes & seasonal soups.

One of our favorite recipes to pair with the Harvest Pumpkin Ale is Blue Moon® Harvest Pumpkin Ale Braised Short Ribs.

 Pearl Street D.T.B. 6pk

An all-malt American Brown Ale with just enough hop presence to keep it from being too sweet. The aroma comes predominantly from the malt with a hint of the spiciness of imported British hops. Seven distinct specialty malts are milled at the brewery and mashed together, providing a complex, nutty flavor with subtle, roasted undertones. This Pearl Street original is a favorite amongst locals and professional beer judges alike. Gold Medal Winner at the World Beer Championships, 2003. Available on draught year ‘round.

 Pearl Street Stout 6pk

Our stout is warming and rich, with a very creamy head and full body. As You can probably tell by the name, this stout not only uses malted barley for it’s flavor, but also is chock full of organic rolled oats, which adds an elemental mouthfeel.

Pearl Street Rubber Mills Pils 6pk

A heartily hopped pilsner lager brewed with Wisconsin malt and German whole leaf hops. Yellow in color, crisp finish and a fresh hop character throughout.
